Apprenticeships for Military

The NRAEF has new ways for transitioning military service members and veterans to pursue hospitality sector registered apprenticeships. Learn more below.

Apprenticeship for Transitioning Service Members- SkillBridge

The NRAEF’s Restaurant Manager SkillBridge Program prepares transitioning service members for acceptance in an apprenticeship program or an opportunity for direct hire as a restaurant manager. This opportunity is a twelve-week intensive program that combines e-instruction and work experience in a supervised real-world environment. Partnered mentors will guide students in skill development and workplace success and supervise participants of the program.

The primary focus of this program is:

• Front of the House Knowledge/Service Culture
• Back of the House / Restaurant Kitchen Knowledge
• Product Quality and Cost Control
• Branding and Marketing

The program aims to provide basic experience in a restaurant work environment that will equip service members to successfully enter into a restaurant manager Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program or be directly hired in the restaurant or food service industry.

The Veteran Apprenticeship and Labor Opportunity Reform Act (VALOR)

To connect veterans directly with career opportunities in restaurants and foodservice, the NRAEF’s restaurant management apprenticeship program can now serve as on-the-job training through the Veteran Apprenticeship and Labor Opportunity Reform (VALOR) Act. Through VALOR, Restaurant Management apprenticeship is now approved for the Post 9/11 GI Bill, which provides veterans with educational assistance. Veteran apprentices have access to a tax-free monthly housing stipend while enrolled. These benefits make it easier for veterans to work in restaurants, enroll in apprenticeship, and immediately advance in their careers.
