WASHINGTON - November 11, 2019 - The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) is proud to celebrate Veteran’s Day and National Veterans and Militaries Families Month this November.
The NRAEF supports active, guard and reserve military members, military spouses, dependent children and veterans with their transition out of the military after separating or retiring from duty. This support includes the Foundation’s work to:
Train service members and their families to hone their skills
Provide pathways to help service members and their families transition into civilian life
Honor service members by recognizing the best in foodservice operations through the Travelers program, which evaluates and reviews land- and sea-based military foodservice installations around the world
New for 2019, the Foundation created opportunities for service members to increase the culinary fundamentals as applied to industry best practices through the Advanced Culinary Training Program (ACTP). The training provides advanced preparation to build the skills that contribute to the effectiveness of service members’ day-to-day duties.
Today, in partnership with Hormel Foods, the NRAEF also announced the recipients of the Hormel Heroes Scholarship, supporting students with military backgrounds pursuing careers in culinary arts or a foodservice management related program.
This year’s winners are Alisa McKinney, a retired veteran who served over 7 years on active duty with the U.S. Army, and Marie Stimpson, a retired Master Sergeant with more than 30 years of serves in the U.S. Army.
“The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) is proud to support service members through continued education and training, especially as they transition back to civilian life,” said Rob Gifford, president of the NRAEF. “We are grateful to Hormel Foods for making these scholarships possible, and for helping our veterans pursue opportunities in the restaurant and foodservice industry.”
